The Common Techniques   Print  E-mail

Key Outlet Marketing - Available at these local stores - This type is commonly used in the 30 to 60 second format to make people aware of the product and where to get it.

Lead Generation - Call now and get your free information - This type is commonly used by companies as a means of generating leads or driving traffic to a website. These are then followed up by mail, telephone, or sales visits.

Companies like Insurance, Investments, Office Equipment and others use this format successfully.

Order Generating - This is the oldest and still most common type of direct response commercial in use today. This is used to generate immediate orders for the product via use of an 800 number, mail or the internet.

This all began in the 1950's with advertisers soliciting orders for kitchen utensils and records on television.

This is successful in the 2 minute and 30 minute format, depending upon the type and price of the product.

Pledge Solicitation - This is used by Non-Profit organizations, like "World Vision" to generate pledges for their particular cause.

Dealer Locator - This is sometimes called a "Tag Commercial" because the call to action is tagged on to the end of the commercial.

Sometimes this is viewed as "Call for the nearest dealer near you!". This is also used as a lead generation where various dealers can follow up on the call.

Continuation of Advertising Message - This can be used to continue an advertising message. For example, you might see an ad for people to call in if you are suffering from heat stroke, say by a local pharmacy.

When you call in you are greeted by a recorded message that gives detailed information about the effectiveness of some remedy they may be promoting.

Whatever technique is used, the good ones always follow the proper direct response formula.

The cost of doing these types of commercials are considerably less than what it takes to do a general advertising type commercial.

It is safe to say that for less than the price of a "Madison Avenue" style 30 second commercial you can produce an entire 30 minute infomercial.
